MSFS20 Multiple Freeware Airports Updated for SU16

Sim Update 16

The release of Sim Update 16 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 did a number on many of my releases! Since my last compatibility update, I have been working daily to update the most affected of my freeware addons.

Normally I would put my payware addons first in this situation, as customers have paid for the scenery and there is a bit more of an expectation for it to be maintained. However, at the same time, all of my freeware have been in pretty rough shape when it comes to compatibility with 2024. And SU16 was the update I have been waiting on for over 8 months now to be the first stepping stone to improve that.

So, with that said, it was time to put the freeware first for a change, but don’t worry! After these releases I will be focusing on getting the payware updated!

MSFS 2024 Native Updates

These updates lay the foundation for 2024 native freeware releases. Most of these updates include improvements for 2024 compatibility, however quite frankly, backwards compatibility of 2020 scenery addons (used in 2024) is still a bit of a mess.

So, with that said, all of these releases are now technically “compatible” with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, however there are still some gremlins hanging about that can only be solved with a native package. Or possibly future sim updates. Whichever comes first.

As I have mentioned in previous posts, with these updates out of the way, I will be looking into what needs to go native in the future (but no solid timeline yet).

flightsim.to releases

At the time of posting these updates, the flightsim.to upload function was not working. That means that these updates are currently only available here on the Emerald Scenery Design website. However, they will make it over to flightsim.to once the upload issue has been resolved. Unfortunately, I have no idea how long that might be, but I will try uploading periodically until it finally works.

Stampede Airport | v2.1.0

  • Excluded autogen building spawning over shed.
  • Fixed terraforming issues introduced in SU16.

  • Removed water excludes that were no longer needed.
  • Reworked a large section of water along the river.

Kantishna Airport | v1.1.0

  • Adjusted orientation of multiple models for new terrain.

  • Fixed exclude for road overlays causing missing autogen trees in 2024.

  • Fixed terraforming issues introduced in SU16.

  • Improved color-matching of texture overlays.

  • Removed some aprons which were no longer needed.
  • Reworked a large section of water along the river.

Montana Creek Airport | v1.1.0

  • Adjusted position of runway, models, water, and autogen vegetation to align with updated aerial imagery.

  • Fixed exclude for road overlays causing missing autogen trees in 2024.

  • Removed several terraforming, vegetation, & water polys that were no longer needed.

Rangeview Airstrip | v1.1.0

  • Added and repositioned parking spawns.
  • Added animated Bear and Moose paths around the coverage area.
  • Added some new vegetation and clutter around both airstrips.
  • Adjusted autogen vegetation to better align with updated aerial imagery.

  • Adjusted position of multiple models.

  • Adjusted position of road to better align with updated aerial imagery.

  • Adjusted tiling of gravel texture for better scale in 2024.

  • Fixed exclude for road overlays causing missing autogen trees in 2024.

  • Replaced default runway cones with ESD version (Improves view distance).
  • Removed some new road overlays introduced in SU16.
  • Reworked and added multiple new water polygons.
  • Reworked gravel apron layout of both Rangeview and the unlisted airstrip to match updated aerial imagery.
  • Reworked terraforming for runway extension at Rangeview (still roughly same length since start moved IRL).
  • Tweaked position and orientation of runway.

Davidson Strip | v2.1.0

  • Added and replaced docks around Amber Lake with ESD models.
  • Adjusted tiling of gravel texture for better scale in 2024.

  • Excluded autogen houses and replaced with ESD Cabin models.
  • Fixed a few terraforming issues.

  • Fixed flickering water puddles.

  • Removed some terraforming polys which were no longer needed.
  • Reworked and added multiple new water polygons.

Snowflake Lake Airstrip | v2.2.1

  • Adjusted opacity of gravel material and added dirt overlay (fixes bumpy runway in 2024).

  • Excluded autogen houses spawning over various models.
  • Fixed exclude for road overlays causing missing autogen trees in 2024.

Bowman’s Beach Helistop | v1.1.0

  • Added gravel apron.
  • Adjusted position of models & aprons to align with updated aerial imagery.

  • Excluded ugly wad of Power Transmission Towers at the nearby Sub-Station.
  • Fixed exclude for road overlays causing missing autogen trees in 2024.

  • Replaced Camper with Shed.

Pine Island Helistop | v1.0.5

  • Converted terraforming to new system.
  • Fixed exclude for road overlays causing missing autogen trees in 2024.

Fantasy of Flight | v0.6.3

  • Fixed exclude for road overlays causing missing autogen trees in 2024.

  • Fixed floating runway warning signs.

  • Fixed floating wall near runway 32.

  • Fixed missing mesh face on long wall.

  • Improvements to terraforming around the boardwalk retention pond.

  • Tweaked and cleaned up a few aprons around the warehouse.
